The Alturas Duo, comprised of HCD Faculty Members Carlos Boltes (viola) & Scott Hill (guitar) won the 2010 CMA/ASCAP (Chamber Music America/ American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Awards for innovative programming and commitment to featuring new works.
The Alturas Duo, who are former Hartt graduate students, are about to receive a very important Adventurous Programming Award from CMA/ASCAP (see below). The duo is comprised of Carlos Boltes, viola/charango and Scott Hill, guitar. They both did four years of graduate studies at Hartt earlier this decade, first doing individual degrees on viola and guitar (during which they formed the duo) and then doing a 2-year graduate chamber music residency program working with the members of the Emerson and Miami string quartets.
CMA/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming
Presented annually to ensembles and presenter/festivals for innovative public programming of contemporary music for small ensembles, these awards are given jointly by CMA and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). The awards presentation will take place at CMA’s National Conference in New York City (January 15-17, 2010).
