Maurice Gardner Composition Competition Winner

The American Viola Society is pleased to announce the winner of the first Maurice Gardner Composition Competition. Rachel Matthews’ Dreams for viola and piano will receive a joint world premiere: violist Helen Callus will perform the work (with the composer at the piano) in Seattle in April 2010; violist Scott Slapin and the composer will perform the work at the 38th International Viola Congress in Cincinnati in June 2010.  Donations the Maurice Gardner Composition Competition Fund are still being accepted to help fund the Cincinnati premiere and to establish an endowment.
