Master Class Information

There will be an opportunity for approximately four viola student participants to play in the afternoon master class. Participants who wish to be considered for master class performance should contact Professor Murdock at kmurdock@umd.edu. To be considered, requests to participate must be received by 3/18/10.

1:00- 2:00   Check in/Orientation Desk, School of Music Lobby, CSPAC

1:30 p.m.    Presentation “How to care for your instrument” – Dalton Potter, Potters Violins

• 1:30- 3pm  Exhibit of violas made by Gabrielle Kundert of Olney, MD. Ms. Kundert will be available for individual consultations and adjustment to student’s instruments, as time allows.

• 1:00-3pm  Jim Kelly and David Basch of Potter Violins will be set up in the lobby with strings and instrument supplies for purchase.

3:00 p.m.    Master Class with Katherine Murdock and Daniel Foster

4:45 p.m.    Questions and Answers/Discussion Period

• 5:15 p.m.  “VOILA VIOLA” recital in Gildenhorn Recital Hall by students from the University of Maryland viola studio to be followed by a “Play-in” reading performance by all interested participants (high school age or above, or appropriate level of proficiency) * If interested in participating in this informal “play-in” please send email to leopier@yahoo.com requesting PDF file of music to be performed

• 7:00 p.m.  Dinner Reception to meet students and faculty (*Free, but please register in advance with Jenny Lang at jenlang@umd.edu)

• 8:00 p.m.  University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra performs in Dekelboum Concert Hall. Program includes Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber and Strauss Ein Heldenleben.

The Alturos Duo will join other musicians in a Concert of Chilean Music to raise funds for Chilean Earthquake Relief.  There is a $30 suggested Tax-Deductable Donation.

Funds will go to the Chilean American Foundation (CAF).
