Get ready to celebrate all things viola! The 2026 American Viola Society Festival will take place from June 3–6, 2026, at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Hosted by Diane Phoenix-Neal, this festival will bring together violists from around the world to share performances, presentations, and cutting-edge ideas that highlight the incredible diversity of our viola community.

Call for Proposals

Do you have an innovative idea, performance, or research project to share? The proposal submission portal opens February 15, 2025, and we want to hear from you! Whether you’re interested in performing, presenting a lecture-recital, or leading a workshop, there’s a place for your voice at this event.

Guidelines “Sneak Peek”

  • Who Can Apply: Anyone passionate about the viola! Submissions are welcome from performers, educators, researchers, luthiers, and more. Collaborative and interdisciplinary projects are especially encouraged. Accepted presenters and performers must be members in good standing of the AVS at the time of submission and presentation at the Festival.
  • Categories: Proposals may fall into various formats, such as shared recitals, lectures, workshops, and panel discussions. Emerging violists under 35 can also apply for special opportunities in teaching, research, and performance.

Proposals must be submitted by August 15, 2025. Don’t miss this chance to contribute to an unforgettable celebration of our beloved instrument. Let your creativity and expertise shine on the festival stage!
