Solo works for viola by Stravinsky, Hindemith, Vieuxtemps, and Hovhaness, featuring performances and tips for performance and practice
Eric Nowlin (Detroit Symphony principal, Assistant Professor of Viola at Michigan State University) has launched a new series of videos about landmark solo viola repertoire:
“I recently created a YouTube channel that features videos I produced of four works for solo viola, along with four videos that give information for each piece including short notes on the composer, style, and performance and practice tips. The pieces featured are Hovhaness’ Chahagir, VieuxtempCapriccio, Stravinsky’s Elegy, and Hindemith’s Sonata Op. 25 no. 1. I recorded these videos using the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s fabulous webcasting equipment, and hope that they would be of interest to professional violists, viola students studying these works, and teachers interested in learning more about them.”
